COVID-19: Cancellation of Meetings

Dear Ventura and Santa Barbara Veterinary Medical community –

As a recent member of the Santa Barbara/Ventura area, I have heard stories of the strength of this community in the face of natural disaster. From the Thomas Fire of 2017, stories abound of the strength, resilience, resourcefulness and kindness of our community to ensure that the needs of our residents and their four legged friends were met. Unfortunately, we are met with another disaster; a global pandemic – COVID-19 – and being asked to respond in kind.

As of this evening, California Governor Gavin Newsom has issued a state-wide mandatory STAY-AT-HOME order, effective immediately. All business deemed non-essential will be forced to close in an attempt to curb the spread of COVID-19. With the global picture changing minute by minute, the extent of this mandate is open-ended.

In order to comply with CA STAY-AT-HOME mandates, limit groups to < 10 individuals and in an attempt to limit infection to our community, we as your SBVVMA leadership team have voted to cancel all CE meetings for the foreseeable future. We will update you via email and our website when normal meetings will resume.

At this time, the AVMA is working to ensure that veterinary clinics continue to be represented for what we are – essential to the patients who rely on our care. Veterinary clinics within Ventura  and Santa Barbara Counties are allowed to remain open for business pursuant to Public Health Orders (attached below). However it is important that we review these orders as they are constantly in flux. Many hospitals in our community have or are working to implement appropriate guidelines for the safety and well being of our staff, clients and patients in our individual places of operation. I have attached some resources for further information as needed.

Please contact any of your SBVVMA leadership team should you have any questions/concerns or if we can be of support to you at this ime.

Stay safe, stay healthy, remember kindness.
