CANCELLED Integrative Oncology: Blending the Best of Conventional and Complementary Resources

Meeting Date (All Meetings start at 7:30 PM):
RX Vitamins for Pets
Robert J. Silver, DVM, MS, CVA

Please join Rx Vitamins for Pets Nutraceuticals and the Santa Barbara Ventura County Veterinary Medical Association (SBVVMA), for a continuing education, dinner on Thursday, March 12, 2020. The evening will feature the topic, Integrative Oncology: Blending the Best of Conventional and Complementary Resources, presented by Robert J. Silver, DVM, MS, CVA, Formulator and Chief Medical Officer of Rx Vitamins for Pets nutraceuticals.

Cancer is the most common natural cause of death in dogs and cats that are older. In fact, cancer accounts for nearly 50% of pet deaths each year. In spite of advances in chemotherapy and radiation treatments, the patient with cancer faces a number of challenges that simply removing the tumor does not address. A multidisciplinary approach, blending conventional therapies with evidence-based complementary therapies and incorporation of the mind-body approach can create the best quality of life for your patients.

This lively 50 minute dinner talk will discuss the integrative approach to the patient with cancer, discuss assessment of quality of life through surveys, and go over briefly some of the advanced nutraceutical support that is available to help the cancer patient live better longer. Integrative therapeutics like fish oil, turmeric, medical mushrooms, and beta glucans all have extensive evidence supporting the role they play in establishing quality of life for the cancer patient. These supplements will be discussed from an evidence point of view.

Dr. Silver is a companion animal, integrative medicine veterinarian of over thirty-eight years who holds a pre-doctoral masters of science degree in cardio-pulmonary physiology and is a certified veterinary acupuncturist since 1993.
